One of the few festivals of which the exact origin is not definitively known. Nebuta is one of the greatest Japanese cultural festivals of the year, and is held anually in Aomori city in the first week of August. Nebuta can be seen as a festival to celebrate summer, but Wikipedia lists a few historic origins as well. Aomori also has a few other gems to show off, unrelated to the festival.
